CHRIS HANSEN

Protecting the climate. Rebuilding the economy. Delivering results.

We must work together to build a sustainable Colorado where everyone—no matter who we are or where we come from—can thrive. By focusing on what unites us rather than what divides us, I believe we can create a brighter, more equitable future.

My Mission

I am a father, an engineer, and a public servant working towards a Colorado in which diversity is a strength, the economy works for everyone, our children have a sustainable future, and science matters.

My Priorities

It’s time to work together. Coloradans cast their votes for those who will fight to expand opportunity, champion the climate, and govern responsibly. They want leaders who will stand for something – not against everything. They want a government that will work for the people – not special interests. It’s time to move forward. It’s time to set an example. It’s time to put pettiness aside, because I believe there is more that unites us than divides us.

environment & Energy

From floods, to fires, to endless drought, everyone across our state has felt the effects of a changing environment. Our recreational industries have suffered, our farmers face financial ruin, and our vulnerable communities are continually jeopardized by extreme temperatures. We are at a critical crossroads in our planet’s history. And as Coloradans, we CAN take meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future.

Healthcare

Far too many Coloradans still face exorbitant healthcare costs – often being forced to choose between financial stability and getting the healthcare they desperately need. No one should be burdened with that choice. That is why we must continue to find new and innovative solutions for our healthcare needs. I am committed to fighting for legislation that promotes innovation and addresses the widening affordability gap.

Education

Since 2008 nearly $1 billion has been taken out of Colorado classrooms every year compared to previous funding levels. Schools have been forced to abandon courses such as art, band, and physical education and more than half the districts in the state have 4-day school weeks. Meanwhile, our remaining teachers have come under increasing fire, struggle with low wages, and are expected to manage ever-growing classroom sizes. It’s time to pay our teachers fair wages and give our students the tools they need to succeed.

Justice

The unjust killings of Black Americans at the hands of police are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to systemic oppression and inequality in this country. For centuries, the abuse of Black and Brown people, women, and the LGBTQ community has been cultivated, protected, and at the same time, denied – making it dangerously difficult to achieve change. I am committed to standing up for policies that end structural discrimination against marginalized groups.

Our Community

From peaceful plains to rugged mountains tops, our state is uniquely beautiful. But our impressive landscapes are not the only thing that makes Colorado special. Our residents are some of the most welcoming, adventurous, hard-working, innovative people in the country.

For the last 3 years, I have served the wonderful people of Denver, first as a Representative for HD6 and now as a Senator for SD31. But as a member of the Joint Budget Committee, I am honored to have the opportunity to help improve the lives of all Coloradans.
